FLY-TYING HOOKS
Free Club Workshop Days
These fly-tying workshop days are conducted by Mick Hall and are sponsored by Mustad Hooks.
On the day we demonstrate a number of new and innovative fly tying methods and feature a lot of the fly
patterns that are published in Mick's "Fly Talk" column in Freshwater Fishing magazine.
We also talk and demonstrate about how flies should sit on or in the water and how we can make flies seem
to be alive by highlighting and looking for trigger points that make trout take your fly.
Think about this, there are flies/insects that naturally sit very low in the surface film, such as Beetles
or Hoppers, and then there are those that can stand on the surface film, such as adult midge, the dun stage of the Mayfly
or the surface-clinging features of the spent spinner.
So much is covered on the day that it is difficult to list in any order the topics discussed or featured.
But what is shown and talked about will help you enhance your personal skill
levels and knowledge of the fly life on our waterways.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN ATTEND THESE COURSES?
Normally we set up a digital video camera to a television set, or bank of sets, depending on the numbers
attending. It is not unusual to have anywhere from twenty to forty people
in attendance. Often in country areas we get two clubs joining together to help
ensure numbers.
With the camera focussed on the head of the fly tying vice, all
of the patterns tied are clearly visible to all of those attending. Note,
these workshops are not normally personal hands-on tuitional days but if required, they can be organised and a per person
fee will be required.
HOW DO YOU BOOK ONE OF THESE FREE WORKSHOP DAYS?
Simply contact Mick Hall direct to work out suitable dates, as very little else is required.
HOW MUCH DO THESE WORKSHOPS COST?
For Victorian based clubs the cost of putting on a Mustad Workshop Day is totally FREE. Interstate Clubs need to cover the cost of travel, meals and accommodation.
